Commonwealth

Commonwealth is known as the Killer Highway of the Philippines for its heavy traffic and high accident record.  It is located in the heart of Quezon City. It follows a curving route from the Elliptical Road to Quirino Highway.


Along commonwealth, residential subdivisions and commercial establishments are built. Some of these are Ferndale Villas by Alveo Land, a townhome that is near educational institutions like the University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Manila, and Miriam College. Verde Spatial by Filinvest, a condominium that has a minimalist theme accented with wide greenery located along Commonwealth Avenue.


A few shopping malls can be found along Commonwealth Avenue, as well as a few government establishments. Some of the well-known landmarks found near Commonwealth, Quezon city include:


  • Iglesia ni Cristo Central Temple, the main temple of the Philippine-based Christian religion, Iglesia ni Cristo.

  • Quezon City Memorial Circle, a national park and shrine that is bordered by the Elliptical Road.

  • St. Peter Parish, a famous church that is a replica of the St. Peters Basilica, located in Commonwealth Avenue.


Nearby educational institutions like the University of the Philippines Diliman, the country's national university and New Era University which is a non-catholic university administered by the Iglesia ni Cristo. 


In commuting in Commonwealth, it is more advisable to take a bus or jeepney, better yet drive your own car. For those who use their car, it is important that you are aware of the changing U-turn slots as well as the jaywalkers who scurry across the highway.
